How to Setup SMTP Authentication

Choose your e-mail client:

Windows Systems:

Outlook Express 5.0 and 6.0
Outlook 97
Outlook 2000
Outlook XP
Netscape Messenger
Eudora

Macintosh (Apple) Systems:

Outlook Express for MAC Users
Netscape for MAC
MAC OS X Mail v1.1
MAC OS X Mail v1.2.5

Outlook Express 5.0 and 6.0

1. Run Microsoft Outlook Express
2. In Outlook Express from the Tools menu, select "Accounts" to open the Internet Accounts window.
3. Double-click on your email account in the Internet Accounts window to open your email account Properties window.
4. In the email account Properties window click on the Servers tab.
5. In the Outgoing mail Server sections select "my server requires authentication". Click on the settings button to open the Outgoing Mail Server window.
6. Click the "apply" button.
7. Click the "OK" button.
8. Click "close" in the Internet Properties window.

Outlook 97

Download and install the Outlook 97 Internet Mail Enhancement Patch from http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/9798/outlimep.aspx (directions from Microsoft are on the same page)

Outlook 2000

1. Run Outlook 2000
2. In Microsoft Outlook 2000 from the Tools menu, select "Accounts" to open the Internet Accounts window.
3. Double-click on your email account to open the email account Properties window.
4. In the email account Properties window click on the Servers tab,
5. In the Outgoing mail server section select "my server requires authentication".
6. Click the "apply" button.
7. Click the "OK" button.
8. Click "close" in the Internet Properties window.

Outlook XP

1. Run Outlook XP
2. In Outlook XP from the Tools menu, select email accounts
3. Double-click on your email account to open the email account Properties window.
4. Click on the "more settings" button, then select the "outgoing server" tab.
5. Select "my server requires authentication"
6. Click the "OK" button
7. Close the properties window.

Netscape Messenger

1. Run Netscape Messenger
2. In Netscape Messenger from the Edit menu, select "Preferences:.
3. Click on the plus (+) icon next to "Mail & Newsgroups"
4. Choose "Mail Servers"
5. In the "outgoing mail server username" field enter Username
6. Click the OK button.

Eudora

1. Run Eudora
2. In Eudora, from the Tools menu, select "options"
3. Click on the "sending mail" icon
4. Check the box next to "allow authentication"
5. Click the "OK" button

Outlook Express for MAC Users

1. Run Outlook Express
2. In Outlook Express, from the Tools menu, select "Accounts"
3. Click "click here for advanced sending options"
4. Click OK.
5. Check the box next to SMTP server requires authentication.
6. Click the OK button.

Netscape for MAC

1. Run/Open Netscape browser.
2. Select the Edit menu.
3. Select Mail & Newsgroup Account Settings from the edit menu.
4. Select Outgoing Server
5. Check the box next to User Name and password.
6. Enter User Name
7. Click OK

Mac OS X Mail v1.1

1. Choose Preferences from the Mail menu.
2. Click Accounts.
3. Select your Swift-provided account and click Edit.
4. Select the Account Information tab.
4. Check "Use authentication when sending mail".
5. Click OK.

Mac OS X Mail v1.2.5

1. Choose Preferences from the Mail menu.
2. Click the Accounts button
3. Select your Swift-provided account and click the Edit button.
4. Click the Account Options preference tab.
5. Click drop down menu button to the right of "Outgoing Mail Server". Select "Add Server" from menu.
6. Configure SMTP server by:

a) Entering name of the Swift-provided SMTP Mail server "mail.domain_name.com" in the "Outgoing Mail Server" data field.
b) Select "Password" from the list in the drop down menu to the right of "Authentication"
c) Enter complete user e-mail address (jdoe@domain_name.com) in the "Username" data field
d) Enter password into the "Password" data field, note - case does matter
e) Click the "OK" button on the SMTP Server Options window

7. Click the "OK" button on the edit "Accounts" drop down window
8. Click the "close" button (red button in the upper left of window) on the "Accounts" window
9. Send an e-mail to test
